The Rules

Here's roughly how the game works:

  • Pick one club to play each matchday.
  • If your club wins, you earn 3 points.
  • On a draw you get 1 point.
  • You may pick the same club a maximum of 2 times per season.
  • You have 3 jokers to double your points that round.
  • The season is split into 4 periods, so you can also become period champion.

An example

Piet picks Ajax in Round 1. Ajax play Telstar that round and win 7-1. Piet earns 3 points for Ajax's win, 7 goals for and 1 goal against.

Thea picks PSV in Round 1. PSV play Sparta and the match ends 0-0. Thea earns 1 point for PSV's draw. In the standings we see this

Name Points Goals for Goals against Balance
Piet 3 7 1 +6
Thea 1 0 0 0

In Round 2, Piet picks Groningen. Groningen play Heerenveen that round and lose 1-4. Piet earns 0 points for Groningen's loss, 1 goal for and 4 goals against.

Thea picks Excelsior in Round 2. Excelsior play Feyenoord and win 2-1. Thea earns 3 points for Excelsior's win, 2 goals for and 1 goal against. In the standings we see this

Name Points Goals for Goals against Balance
Thea 4 2 1 1
Piet 3 8 5 +3

Suppose Thea had used a joker in Round 2. Then her Round 2 result would have been doubled, so 6 points, 4 goals for and 2 goals against.

Good tactics

We don't know what a good tactic is. It comes down to knowledge, skill, insight and pure luck.

There are 34 matchdays and 18 clubs. You may pick each club a maximum of 2 times. That means you don't have to pick 1 club at all, or you can pick 2 clubs just once. You can decide not to pick a weaker club at all. Or that one club you can't stand, so you don't have to cheer for them. You're completely free to figure it all out and decide for yourself.

We also don't know what a good tactic is for using jokers. It does seem better, though, to use a joker on a match where you think it's fairly certain your chosen club will win.

But in the end, everything always turns out differently than planned anyway.
